Faith-Based Resources

Selected faith-based resources included here focus on connecting LGBTQ youth and families with affirming faith communities, resources, religious and spiritual leaders and places of worship. Some resources provide lists of affirming congregations across the U.S., and others provide access to fellowship, religious services, educational resources and spiritual guidance.

Affirmation LGBTQ Mormons Families & Friends
An international organization that promotes understanding, acceptance, and self-determination for individuals with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions for current and former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Provides allyship, ministering, and educational resources and holds an annual international conference.

Association of Welcoming & Affirming Baptists

The Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists supports churches in being and becoming welcoming and affirming of people of all gender identities and sexual orientations.

Beloved Arise
An organization that provides resources and support to empower LGBTQ teens across Christian denominations through youth programs, advocacy and ally engagement opportunities, and resources for other faith-based organizations.

Brethren Mennonite Council
A nonprofit group committed to providing mutual support for families with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex members. This includes LGBTQ people, families and allies, to worship, educate, and provide mutual support.

DignityUSA
A national Catholic organization that provides support for people of all sexual orientations, genders, and gender identities—especially gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons. Provides opportunities for worship, service, education, and social justice.

Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry
Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry is an organization that supports ministry to and with LGBTQ people and their families “in and adjacent to” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Emmaus provides monthly devotionals, fellowship, Pride activities and support in an affirming community of heterosexual/cisgender and LGBTQ Latter-day Saints.

Equally Blessed
A coalition of Call to Action, DignityUSA, and New Ways Ministry that seeks to educate and inspire Catholics to take action on behalf of LGBTQ and intersex people, their families and friends.

Eshel
An organization that works with individuals, families, and the Orthodox Jewish community to support LGBTQ members. Eshel has chapters in cities in the U.S. and Canada that provide activities, parent retreats, a speakers’ bureau and access to LGBTQ resources in the U.S. and Israel.

Fortunate Families
A national Catholic organization and parent network that supports LGBTQ family members and facilitates conversations with bishops, pastors and Catholic Church leadership through sharing personal stories and working to establish Catholic LGBTQ Ministries in dioceses, parishes, educational institutions, and communities.

Freed Hearts
A Christian organization that helps parents, LGBTQ people, educators, therapists, and churches to create safe spaces, inspiration and encouragement. Provides resources ranging from books, podcasts, video courses and social media, and a YouTube Channel.

Friends for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Concerns
A North American Quaker faith community that holds online gatherings and worship.

Galva – 108
An international, nonprofit religious organization – Gay & Lesbian Vaishnava Association – provides information and support to LGBTI Vaishnavas and Hindus, their friends, and other interested persons.

Guidance for Families with LGBTQ Children to Prevent Suicide & Increase Well-Being for Current and Former Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Evidence-based family education booklet that provides guidance for parents and families to prevent suicide and other serious health concerns and to increase well-being for their LGBTQ children. This publication is a Best Practice resource for suicide prevention in the Best Practices Registry for Suicide Prevention. Other general versions are also available in English, Spanish and Chinese.

Hindu LGBTQ Faith-Affirming Resources
An online list of resources that include publications, videos and organizations for LGBTQ Hindus compiled by a non-profit federation of LGBTQ Asian American, South Asian, Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander Organizations.

Jewish Queer Youth
A group that supports and empowers LGBTQ youth in the Jewish community focuses on teens and young adults from Orthodox, Chasidic, and Sephardic communities. Provides Drop-In Center and services for parents, teens, and families.

Keshet
An organization that works for the full equality of LGBTQ Jews and families. Helps Jewish organizations with the skills to build LGBTQ-affirming communities, spaces for queer Jewish youth, and advances for LGBTQ rights. Offers professional development, training and consultation, youth initiatives, programs for LGBTQ Jews of Color, leadership projects and community learning.

Mama Dragons
An organization founded by Mormon mothers with LGBTQ children that supports, educates, and empowers mothers of LGBTQ children through a private Facebook and regional groups to support and advocate for their LGBTQ children.

Many Voices
A Black church movement for gay and transgender justice. Equips and brings forward Black leaders that support LGBT equality and justice through educational workshops, seminars, and dialogues – in-person and online.

More Light Presbyterians
More Light Presbyterians works to support full participation of LGBTQI people in the life, ministry, and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) through education, resources, including information for LGBTQ youth and families and online training programs for congregations. Website provides links to welcoming congregations and U.S. campus ministries.

Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity
An organization that supports, empowers and connects LGBTQ Muslims. Provides educational classes, retreats, advocacy, and resources including lectures, films video, podcasts and blogs.

Muslims for Progressive Rights
An international organization that supports equality for all, including women and LGBTQ people. Website provides links to LGBTQ affirming Muslim organizations and resources.

Muslims for Progressive Values
An organization that reflects Islam as a source of dignity, justice, compassion and love for all. Offers spiritual counseling, chaplain endorsement and lectures and speaking engagements. Provides support for LGBTQ people and access to resources.

New Ways Ministry
Provides education, dialogue,  a state-by-state list of LGBTQ-friendly parishes and Catholic faith communities and spiritual and pastoral programming to support acceptance of LGBTQ people.

Online Faith Collective
Online LGBTQ-affirming worship services for people of all faiths, hosted by Parity, a national organization that helps congregations, clergy, denominations and seminaries become more LGBTQ inclusive. Website provides access to online worship services by denomination and access to a Virtual Pastor Network of LGBTQ affirming pastors for compassionate conversation and/or prayer.

Outreach – Catholic Online Resource
A Catholic online resource for LGBTQ people and their families that includes essays, reflections, ministries, services, support and news to affirm LGBTQ Catholic people and families. Founded by Father Jim Martin, SJ.

Peculiar
A family support organization that inspires, educates, and empowers parents and families from faith-based communities to love and embrace their LGBTQ children. The phrase Peculiar People is based on a scriptural interpretation of “those who stand with God” and represents faithful followers who are willing to stand for what they believe in the face of ridicule misunderstanding. Peculiar convenes events that provide education, fellowship and social support for families and LGBTQ people.

Q Christian Fellowship
An organization that cultivates radical belonging among LGBTQ+ people and allies through an annual conference, community groups, Parent Summit, and a variety of resources.

Rainbodhi
Rainbodhi is a spiritual friendship group for LGBTQ Buddhists that promotes inclusion and diversity in the broader Buddhist community. Rainbodhi offers meditation, Dhamma discussion, and social events in a safe, supportive environment. The website provides links to international LGBTQ Buddhist groups and affirming monasteries around the world, books, videos and other resources.

Reconciliation Works: Lutherans for Full Participation
An independent, Lutheran, membership-supported organization that provides education, resources and training to build inclusive congregations and ministries to promote the acceptance of LGBTQ people in all Lutheran settings.

Reconciling Ministries Network
An international network of churches, regional groups, campus ministries and other resources for United Methodists that provides education and support to promote inclusion of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in the United Methodist Church. Website provides links to publications, resources and ministries in the U.S. and other countries.

Unitarian Universalist Association LGBTQ Ministries
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is the central organization for Unitarian Universalist congregations. This website provides links to congregations, training ministers, religious education curricula, publications and programs. The UUA’s LGBTQ Ministries provides resources to help individuals and congregations increase welcome and inclusion for LGBTQ people and families.

United Church of Christ LGBT Ministries
Christian religious organization that includes local churches and a global ministry. Has a specific ministry for LGBTQ people and families.

Unity Fellowship Church Movement
Is the first affirming and welcoming Black church for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons with several congregations across the United States. Members of the public can RSVP to attend services online.
